Three's a Charm
In my last post I wrote about painting the same model, after about a year. Well, today I went to my class at with Giovanni Casadei, and who should appear as the model but the same woman. So now I have painted her three times! At least, I was working from a different angle this time, and this was a figure class, so she was nude. I'm really trying to use Giovanni's loose and free painting technique, and it seems to be making quite a difference. There is a believable volume and attitude in the painting that I don't think has been there before:
Remember those bananas - yellow on the complementary color, purple? Doug Martenson's homework assignment for this week (due tomorrow morning) was the opposite - to paint an eggplant, as dark as possible, against a yellow background. Here then is the eggplant:
